When one man, for whatever reason, has the opportunity to lead an extraordinary life, he has no right to keep it to himself.
The main service was chaotic, no doubt about it. However, the dine on demand really came into its own when I wanted to set my own schedule and here, much like at the bar, the service was sincere, friendly and professional.
The lounge is so quiet, cavernous and awe inspiring that it doesn't feel like a space in which to kick back and have fun. If you're expecting the Virgin Clubhouse you'll be disappointed. It is however one of the most striking and interior spaces I've ever spent time in. The calm and tranquility is a world away from the airport terminal below
Unfortunately the bed in the 744 is not 100% flat, the foot rest sags and you do end up sliding a bit. I usually have trouble sleeping on planes and this flight was no exception. I ended up just watching movies for a few hours whilst everybody else slept.
On the plus side, this meant I was awake to see the epic sunrise
Overall, the experience with Qantas was mixed. The crew are very helpful and friendly. They have their wits about them and behave like competent, experienced adults. With some other airlines you get younger crews who may look better but you get the feeling that their ability to improvise, go the extra mile or even engage in decent conversation is somewhat limited.
My seat was in the first row of the mini-cabin (19A), which could have meant extra noise from the galley. I had a feeling this wouldn't be a problem on CX, an airline renowned for the quality of the in flight service (I was right). The benefit is that you get an extra large foot cubby!
The service on this flight was ferociously good. I felt like I didn't have a care in the world. Everything was brought to me as soon as I needed it. Sometimes the FAs would proactively suggest a coffee or a snack before I myself had realised I wanted it.
The seat is obscenely large and comfortable in every position I tried it. The IFE had a huge selection and a decent screen too. The headphones sounded crystal clear and no cabin noise leaked through.
It is borderline ridiculous how good this flight was. I cannot wait to fly CX F long haul next year and am delighted to say that I just got my parents booked in on a CX F redemption too. I feel like everybody needs to experience this at least once.
