REVIEW – Conrad Tokyo (Executive Bay View Room)

  • Location: Tokyo – Japan
  • Chain: Hilton
  • Loyalty Program: Hilton Honors
  • Status During Stay: Gold
  • Room Type: Executive Bay View Room
  • Date: April 2014

For the last two days of our trip K and I had a chance to catch up with Mr and Mrs M, this time without my parents in tow!

I got a great rate for 2 nights in Bay view room at the Conrad Tokyo via travelpony. I called up the hotel in advance and asked for my HHonors Gold number to be attached to the reservation. I knew this wouldn’t get me points but I know that rooms are often allocated quite some time in advance and that having status would give me a chance of an upgrade to the executive floor.

The hotel only tends to upgrade golds one notch, this includes an upgrade from city to bay view. Paying for a bay view, I hoped would get me an upgrade to the executive floor and a chance to review the lounge.

I previously reviewed the Conrad Tokyo when I stayed in a city view room on a Hilton staff rate – here.

The Conrad is super convenient if flying into HND.

We took the Monorail, followed by a quick stop on the underground, and were at the hotel 40 minutes after picking up our bags at the HND baggage carousel. When you are used to NRT, this is quite a revelation.

The monorail layout is absolutely bizarre with seats at a variety of different heights and some located in the centre rather than the sides of the carriages.

Arriving into the ground floor ‘pre-lobby’ of the Conrad, I instantly felt at home. I love the fact that you can return to the same hotel half way around the world and nothing really seems to have changed.

It’s weird; if you show me a picture of a lobby, a bedroom, the pool in any number of hotels around the world, the memories suddenly come flooding back. That’s why I love reading and writing trip reports.

Returning to a favourite hotel is a phenomenal feeling.

The ground floor is decorated with some pretty cool art as well as sofas which I have never seen used.

As luck would have it, when we checked in we were told that we had indeed been upgraded to an executive floor room

conrad tokyo bar

It was too late to enjoy the lounge that night though, so instead we headed to the hotel bar to enjoy a couple of cocktails and the stunning view of Tokyo Bay (the same view as our room!)

Other than the change in view, our room was almost identical to the room in my previous report. However I think I prefer the red colour scheme I had last time to the blue and gold in this room.

Another duck to add to the collection

Whilst checking my reservation online I noticed that you could select which brand of toiletries you wanted, the standard Aromatherapy Associates or Shanghai Tang.

I went with Shanghai Tang and was pleased to see that they gave us a double compliment in addition to the regular toiletries!

conrad tokyo bear

I love all the little touches like the bears (as spotted earlier on this trip, in Kyoto)

Given the amount of food we had on the CX flight we were happy to make do with some bar snacks alongside our cocktails but were craving a bit of dessert after. As luck would have it, the Conrad had our backs.

Oh, I almost forgot, the view:

And in the morning:

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Breakfast at the Conrad Tokyo is a fantastic experience. The variety of buffet dishes is really extensive and the quality of the food is very high.

conrad tokyo easter breakfast

I particularly enjoyed all of the Easter treats that had been laid out.

On this occasion we were offered a table away from the main dining room, in the restaurant on the bay side. Unless you feel the need to get up frequently to load up at the buffet, I think this is a much preferable experience.

The atmosphere of the room is far quieter and of course, you get to enjoy the view.

These are quite possibly my favourite Eggs Benedict in the world.

conrad tokyo waffles

The waffles are top notch too

Executive Lounge

We had breakfast in the executive lounge on the second morning. The selection of dishes it a lot more limited but still pretty good.

The cocktail hour in the lounge features a varied selection of delicious canapes and drinks which are brought to you via table service. We were in a bit of a rush to head out so I only managed to snap a couple of food shots:

There was also a selection of very nice meats and cheeses available as a buffet

Another fantastic stay in one of my favourite city hotels in the world. The Conrad is serene, modern and beautiful. The lounge takes the experience up another notch and really cements this hotel’s standing in the top tier of luxury properties.
